Four Advantages of Aluminum Boats Boat hulls are constructed using different materials today. Earlier you would notice that boats were made of wood alone. Now with all the latest advanced technology, you get them in steel, fiber glass, aluminum and the like. Though they are available in different materials, aluminum has it own reasons why it is advantageous to choose. The main four reasons for choosing aluminum hulls for boats is its weight, speed, repair, and its manufacturing durability. Whatever one buys one always checks the durability and the brand name. If it is a reputed brand, then immediately you go for it. It’s the same case with the boats. As we all know steel is heavier than aluminum. So a boat hull that is made of aluminum is definitely lighter and can be made as strong as a steel hull weighing lighter. This lightweight can be used to carry heavier cargo than a steel hull boat. The next advantageous factor is speed. Again since aluminum is lighter, the boat can travel faster when it is driven by a sail. If it is driven by a motor the consumption of fuel is lessened when aluminum hulls are used. The repair of aluminum boats is very easy. If you get a dent in the hull, it can be easily removed by using a hammer. If this does not work out, you can also cut the area with a saw and replace it with another piece. You surely can’t do this if you have a fiber glass boat. The fourth most important advantageous is its manufacture. Aluminum hulls are very easy since aluminum is a soft metal and can be designed to any shape by welding. Steel and fiber glass boats need to be created by using a mold. The durability of aluminum boats is the most advantageous of all. Fiber glass boats are brittle and can break easily due to a slight impact. But the aluminum hulls are strong and are able to face any weather condition, and what’s more they are able to withstand corrosion in salt water which cannot be expected from steel hulls.
