There’s no question that owning a boat is a dream come true for people all over the world. Money is the number one concern that stifles so many people’s dreams because they just can’t fit it in their budgets. If we’re allowing economic hardships and current events to interfere or intercept our dreams, then owning a boat will always be a dream and not a reality.
When people are asked concerning owning a boat, they usually respond with, “I can’t afford it.” You can’t afford buying one or building one? Building a boat; especially wooden boats, is far, far, far from the imagination of many people. When they see these things gracing the waters they just cannot fathom building a boat; maybe purchasing one, but building one? Yeah, right.
In any event, wooden boats are so much better to have than some other boats. With all the high price and extravagant other material on the shelves, wooden boats are still unmatched when it comes to durability, reliability and life-expectancy. One of the main reasons why wood is better is because of the strength in the material. Don’t whole your breath but wood is stronger than all the other materials use in building boats (fiberglass, steel and aluminum). Yes, even steel!
It is also lightweight, making it perfect for buoyancy. And if you’re concern about it dry rotting; then do yourself a big favor when building, use epoxy as well as fiberglass on the bottom of the boat for it last a hell-of-a-lot longer than expected.
History has proven through the ages that wood is the prefer method for the building of wooden boats because it’s easy to fashion floating vessels which would fascinate the average child or adult. So, are wooden boats really better? Build one and see!
