While building the hull of any boat care should be taken to see that the center of buoyancy is fixed halfway between the stern and bows.  You should keep the buoyant at the right point which ensures that the boat does not topple over or become unbalanced by waves easily.

All hulls have curves in their structure, so when this curving is being negotiated the degree of curving should be accurate and equal to the curvature of the base of the boat.  By doing this you are creating an equal pressure on all parts of the boat.  This helps the boat to be perfectly smooth and the jerk is reduced.

In the case of a ballasted boat that you are building you should make sure the weight is always maintained between 40 and 50% more than the weight of the ballast.  Or you can build a boat that is designed to hold the ballast below the water line all the time.
